Jo Blowers and Paula Hampson teaching and facilitating
Class: 11am -12.30pm
Jam: 1.30pm – 3.30pm
These sessions are open and designed for people interested in movement and improvisation either as beginners or those with more experience.
We have designed an hour’s lunch break between the class and the jam. If you are just coming for the afternoon Jam it would be advisable to come a little earlier to warm up
The Class will be taught by experienced Contact Improvisers who will offer skills for moving safely and efficiently, finding fluidity, energy and strength whilst dancing alone or with a partner.
The Jam offers opportunities to expand the dance in a more ‘open’ situation where the focus is on the dancing as opposed to the teaching. There will be a led introduction and ending to the Jam. Live music may be an additional part of these sessions.
Cost: Class £6/4 Jam £4/2. Class and Jam £8/5
Contact Improvisation, invented by Steve Paxton and others in 1972, is essentially a duet dance form, sometimes referred to as an art/sport. It uses the physical laws of motion (weight, inertia, momentum and gravity) to explore the relationship between the dancers covering a spectrum of high energy and stillness and everything in between.
This session will take place:
at the Bluecoat Performance Space,
School Lane, Liverpool, L1 3BX www.thebluecoat.org.uk
