CI SUNDAY June 23rd – Global Underscore

June 20th, 2013 | Posted by admin in Archive | Jam | workshop - (Comments Off on CI SUNDAY June 23rd – Global Underscore)

11am -1pm Introduction to the Underscore*

2pm-4pm Global Underscore

For the past 12 years, a Global Underscore has been occurring near the summer solstice. Conceived and organised by French dancer Claire Filmon, the Global Underscore Solstice is an annual event during which dancers at many sites around the world practice the Underscore  simultaneously

Therefore for our June CI Sunday, Jo Blowers and Mary Prestidge are planning to introduce participants, during the morning class, to the fundamental principals and practice of the Underscore*, a long-form improvisation structure developed and evolved by Nancy Stark Smith since 1990.  For the afternoon session we will lead the group into the Global Underscore.  We welcome musicians to our monthly CI Sundays and are hoping to incorporate sounds into this event too.

*The Underscore is a vehicle for incorporating Contact Improvisation into a broader arena of improvisational dance practice; for developing greater ease dancing in spherical space—alone and with others; and for integrating kinesthetic and compositional concerns while improvising. It allows for a full spectrum of energetic and physical expressions, embodying a range of forms and changing states. Its practice is familiar yet unpredictable.

This session is open and designed for people interested in movement and improvisation either as beginners or those with more experience.  You do not need to have had previous experience of the Underscore to participate.  It would also be possible for you to attend one or other of the morning or afternoon sessions if you are unable to do both.

Cost: morning £6/4  afternoon £4/2.  Both sessions £8/5

This session will take place:  at the Bluecoat Performance Space,

School Lane, Liverpool, L1 3BX   www.thebluecoat.org.uk
